Dublin City Council

Vibrant Villages is a community initiative developed by the Community Development Section of the South East Area Office/Dublin City Council.

Dublin is a city of villages and in the South East Area (stretching from Christchurch to Crumlin and across to Ringsend) there are over a dozen villages with many located along by the River Dodder.  ‘Vibrant Villages’ involves engaging stakeholders from the various villages and presenting them with ideas for events/projects which could take place in their area, ultimately contributing to greater social capital, active citizenship and vibrant communities.

To launch this initiative, a series of ‘Vibrant Villages’ Receptions took place at the Mansion House at which local communities (including Rathgar) were presented with a ‘Menu of Ideas’ for events/programmes which could take place in their area to help make them more vibrant.

Examples of projects, festivals and events which the Community Development Section have supported in  Rathgar in recent times have included the Rathgar Walking Trail Map & Guide, Bloomsday, the Village Planter Project, Singalong Afternoons, Street Parties and the Christmas Celebrations.
